ADMISSIONS POLICY

  • Students applying for admission to JCI must meet the following admission requirements. No exemptions or waivers are permitted.

    General Admission Requirements

    • All applicants must have successfully completed grade 12 or be a mature student (19 years of age or older) at the start of the program and

    • All applicants must meet one of the language proficiency requirements listed below to be accepted

    Language Proficiency Requirements

    All applicants, regardless of their citizenship status or country of origin, must demonstrate an appropriate level of language proficiency to be accepted in the program. One of the following language proficiency requirements must be met and documentation provided:

    • Completion of 3 years of full-time secondary education (Grades 8-12), or 2 years if the grades are 10, 11 or 12, have been successfully completed where English is the language of instruction, or

    • Completion of 2 years of full-time post-secondary education at an accredited institution where English is the language of instruction, or

    • Verified results for one of the English language proficiency tests listed below:

      • International English Language Testing System (IELTS) Academic: overall score of 5.5 or higher

      • Canadian Academic English Language (CAEL) Test: overall score of 40 or higher 

      • Duolingo English Test: overall score of 95 or higher

    Mature Student Applicants

    Applicants who are 19 years or older at the start of the program and are Canadian citizens or permanent residents who cannot access their educational records must: 

    • Provide attestation that they have completed at least 3 years of full-time instruction in English in a country where English is one of the principal languages and

    • Complete an Accuplacer English Assessment (Next Generation: Reading, Writing and WritePlacer) and achieve the following scores:

      • Reading: 235

      • Writing: 235

      • WritePlacer: 4

    International Students

    • All international applicants must submit a copy of a valid study permit (or co-op education work permit) through Citizenship and Immigration Canada

    • All international applicants must have British Columbia Medical Services Plan (BC MSP) coverage

  • All applicants must:

    • Complete an Application for Admissions

    • Obtain a parent or legal guardian’s signature to register if under 19 years of age

    • Provide a copy of photo ID (driver’s license, passport, or BC ID)

    • Pay an Application Fee

    • Attend an interview (in person, virtual, or phone)

    • Write a Letter of Intent

  • Core Fashion Design program applicants must have successfully completed the following pre-requisite courses:

    • Basic fashion illustration (female croquis drawings by hand)

    • Elements of Design (flats by hand, understanding of design process, collection development)

    • Adobe Illustrator

    • Textiles

    To join the Media Makeup program in progress at Level 3, students must have successfully completed the JCI FAB (Freelance and Bridal Makeup program) or the Business of Beauty program as a pre-requisite. Students will only be admitted into Level 3 of the program should a vacancy be available.
